The voltage of the energy we use in daily life in residences and workplaces is 220V, and the voltage of three-phase alternating current used in industry is 380V.
Low voltage between 110V – 380V is used to operate electrical devices, as the insulation and safety measures become difficult when the voltage increases, and the production of electrical devices that will operate at high voltage is difficult and costly.
Electrical devices are also manufactured to be used at this voltage level. Electronic devices, on the other hand, generally operate with direct current and a lower voltage level. Therefore, these devices use adapters that convert the mains voltage to direct current and reduce the voltage.
Although electricity used in homes and workplaces can be easily accessed by household electrical outlets, it must cover a long distance to reach the point of use.
Power plants producing electrical energy are generally installed in residential units in remote areas. Some regions do not have a power station installed. For this reason, a transmission network has been established to transport the generated electricity to every point of the country. This network is called a power grid.
All power plants in our country are connected in parallel to form an interconnected network system. In this way, the energy produced is delivered to the whole country, regardless of the place of production. The networks used in the transmission of electricity are called transmission networks, and the networks used in distribution are called distribution networks.
